Send love and laughter into the world
Spread joy around the world.
We are so busy being mad all the time, at long lines, at slow
waitresses, at late buses, at picky bosses, at troublesome kids, at
the world in general, that we forget to create joy.
Vow to make one person smile today, and every day. Just one person.
If you get stuck standing in a line, talk to the person next to you.
Make a joke. Compliment their hair, or shoes, or bright yellow
sunglasses. Share a thought. Like what a pretty day it is outside. Or
how cool it is to watch the rain through the store window. Or how
funny the hat with the golf ball on it looked.
Instead of railing at the slow waitress. Enjoy the extra moments you
are spending with friends. Watch the birds play in the trees outside
the window. Watch the couple holding hands and smile, they are
bringing love into the world.
Or play with your food and laugh at yourself. Be silly, and never mind
the rest of the world.
Spread joy every place you go. Especially places where you don’t see
joy.
Wear something goofy next time you go out. And joke about it with
people you encounter. Laugh at yourself and get them to laugh with
you.
Paint a yellow star on your cheek, and tell total strangers with a
straight little kid face, “I was a good girl today. I got a gold
star.” Watch them snicker.
Hold a door open for a stranger.
Chip in the pennies when someone in line in front of you is 5 cents
short.
If you have an extra umbrella, go out on a rainy day and stand at a
busy corner, and pick a stranger and give them the umbrella. As a
gift. And tell them your goal is to make one person smile today, and
today they are it.
And go for the tough ones, people who hardly ever smile. You’ve really
accomplished a lot if you can crack one of those nuts into a smile.
Go for it.
Spread joy around the world.
Make somebody smile today 🙂
