A Little Journey into Mystical Reality

(Or, what we don’t know can hurt us;
as we also prone to make secondary things primary
and primary things secondary…)
A billion stars go spinning through the night
blazing high above your head
But within you is the presence
the essence
of what will be when all the stars are dead…
The inner eye of love
sees the depth of divine goodness hidden in ordinary reality –
wonder, awe, humility, thankfulness, receptivity to goodness…
Twenty minutes of deep silence each day will help…
As will seeing
with wonder
sunsets and sunrises
Listening
to the happy non-stop twittering of scrub wrens
Delighting at the magpie who
for ulterior reasons
has befriended me…
Turning aside
as Moses did
to see a great sight in the midst of ordinary things…
Experiencing the deep silence of deserts or caves
where nothing moves
and nothing can be heard…
Understanding, just a little
about why the Cross is where God’s wisdom is revealed
shattering all other forms of knowledge and
opening one up to the depths of mystery…
Saints and mystics are ordinary people
open to the extraordinary…
…..
So Lord, help me – just a little –
to see the mystery of  ‘the poor rich and the rich poor’
Deliver me
from faith-based fanaticism
which demonises the religious other
rather than choosing the path of love…
And not to be too astonished/surprised at the expansionist vision and perceptions of pseudo-reality of someone like Vladimir Putin –
the product of a wounded personal-and-national psyche
(Hitler also suffered from it).
…..
Today I choose to
live truthfully
love unconditionally
expect nothing in return
be open to childlike wonder
pay attention, be astonished, tell about it…
…..
Or in the inspired words of Pope Francis to
MAKE A NOISE:
Shake up the status quo;
Get out of stuffy sacristies;
Go to the margins of life;
Don’t over-intellectualise faith;
Use a grammar of simplicity;
Spread a message of love and forgiveness;
Fish for God in the deep waters of God’s mystery;
The Church has appeared as too weak,
too distant from the needs of ordinary people
even too cold and too caught up in itself;
The Church is unfit for the new questions in life;
Have warm hearts;
Make a noise and a mess / a fuss;
Don’t worry – get on with the message and make mistakes;
Talk about Jesus Christ.
