These Phases And Other Poems

These Phases-4/29/2002

Where I stop and then I start

Speak a foreign language

Dialogues of the heart

Dirges collide with praises

Pin balls ricochet

Delicate fencing

Prayer’s intricate ballet

-Frank Attanasia

Refuge 4/29/2002

Can you find me refuge

Temporarily will do

Inside there’s this raging

Incessant deluge

Of an unknown depth

No human knows the measure

Fine line existing

Between misery and treasure

-Frank Attanasia

Seek the Lost/ A Reflection on Ezekiel 34:1-16 4/26/2002

Steadfast seek out the ones lost

Remember the forgotten

No matter the costliest cost

Therefore we are your begotten

Find me a pasture, verdant green

From the fowler’s jaws so save us,

A pasture like one, I’ve never seen

Bonded by the blood you gave us

Shepherds’ accountability

With mercy seek out those maimed,

If leading them into treachery

False shepherds you shall be named

Forever there is a watchman

Whose sure sight is unlike ours

On the cross bowed his head, amen

For our sins bore such deep scars

There one finds the living waters

There forever freed from the thief

Every nation, race, sons and daughters

Mercy’s grace filled relief

-Frank Attanasia

Temperature Dropping ( Reflection on terror)-4/29/2002

Temperature dropping quickly

Shattered glass of a bouquet

Feeling somewhat sickly

Like a scarecrow losing hay

Circuitous gardens

Floral like maze

Seeking serene pardons

Within the city’s blaze

Stench of rotten fruit

Wildly growing weeds

Poisoned at the root

Confusing wants with needs

Terror on the ramparts

Terror on the streets

All that terror imparts

Blood on the sheets

Knows no age

Knows no reason

Distorts sacred page

With a fire that’s treason

Hurting the innocent

Targeting everyone

Making us reticent

Then terror surely has won

-Frank Attanasia
