October 17 was the International Day of Poverty Eradication. This was five days after the Bali bombing and a time when all of us again questioned our world and our safety.

On this day, there were reasons to be sad but thankfully there were also reasons to be hopeful. Sadly, on this day six jumbo-jets full of children would have died from diarrhoea, 48 people would have been injured by landmines, 6,000 girls would have undergone female circumcision and 30,500 children would have died from preventable causes. Not a good day. But the reasons to be hopeful are many… just read on.
