Pray for China – Prayer Letter 1/28/03

Dear Friend in Christ, We thank you for your faithful service to God. We like to provide you a weekly summary of news and prayer request pertinent to churches in China. You will find this accurate, reliable and unbiased report very helpful for your ministry.

Tuesday A drug company was accused of creating false scare in GuanDong Province to increase sale of medicine in the wake of pneumonia outbreak. This kind of unethical practice is common now and worthy of the generally wealthy Cantonese. We uplift the one million believers for a revival who are mostly in the GuangZhou and Shantou areas.

Wednesday 1.7 millions students return to school and a new curriculum after New Year in BeiJing. Gone is the old teaching of selfless sacrificing and heroic rescue effort. The new teaching is respect for life, which will be taught to everyone high school and under. We pray for this new generation will come to know Jesus died for them too.

Thursday China is a Permanent Member of United Nations Security Council. On the Iraq issue, China has aligned itself with France and Russia insisting giving the Weapon Inspectors more time. This has deepened the rift. China now exercises its international clout often, and we should not forget to pray for the political leaders for divine wisdom.

Friday Tibetan ¡ ¦s custom allows the practice of polygamy, which hinders the acceptance of the Gospel. But, there are 500,000 Tibetans who now live in exile in India, Europe and the United States, distant from this practice. There are only a few Tibetan congregations among the exiles. Let us pray for mature disciples raised among them to lead other to Christ.

Saturday A new phenomenon is the rapid influx of foreign students on university campus across China. In Shanghai alone, there are 10,000 foreign students learning Chinese. This is unique and attributed to the unprecedented economic growth. We pray for the ministries on University campus, Bible studies and teaching English; may the work be solid and fruitful.

Sunday We will pray for the ministry to the Single Parent, particularly the divorced women in Chinese churches. How to help the churches accept and care for them is a critical issue for pastor and lay alike. We, Chinese churches have much to learn in helping the believers in areas of family crisis, parenting, family financial management and remarriage.

Monday There are 60 thousands inmates in the Taiwan penitentiary system. Life Anew Fellowship, a branch of Prison Fellowship International under the Chuck Colson, has 40 plus coworkers ministering in jails and drug rehab facilities. We are all sinners too, under the grace of God. We pray for these Forgotten people. We too pray for many Chinese who are in jail for His Name sake.
