Zimbabwe’s churches call for God’s help to deal with crisis

Harare (ENI). The heads of Zimbabwe’s main Christian associations have called on citizens to dedicate themselves this week to fasting and prayer for “divine intervention” in the face of an unprecedented political and economic crisis. The church leaders called for a spirit of tolerance and reconciliation and an end to politically motivated violence, amid continuing reports of government-backed violations of human rights. The appeal, made on Monday, came from the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC), the Zimbabwe Catholic Bishops’ Conference (ZCBC), the Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe (EFZ) and the heads of Christian denominations. Malawi’s churches asked to take lead in war against corruption

Blantyre (ENI). Anti-corruption watchdogs in Malawi are seeking to enrol churches in a fight against the sleaze that civic groups fear will tear apart the country’s socio-economic fabric. Corruption cases among high-ranking public officials including government ministers are on the increase. Practices such as students illegally accessing examination papers, immigration officers in passport issuance scandals, nepotism, fraud and bribery are said to have become a way of life for many Malawians. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), a body established by Malawi’s parliament, is encouraging churches and church organizations to take a lead in the campaign against corruption.
