(Ethiopia)–We begin today in Ethiopia where famine is again rearing its ugly head in a country plagued with drought. According to reports, something needs to be done soon or massive numbers of people will die. Food for the Hungry’s[1] Beth Allen says the situation is desperate. “What we have in Ethiopia is a repeat performance of a year of inappropriate rainfall. And, by inappropriate, I mean in some areas there have been droughts and some areas there have been floods. The U-S government and other organizations are estimating that approximately 13 million people will not have enough food to eat in the coming year.” Allen says working with the local church is important to their work both physically and spiritually. “Part of our agenda is to get churches reaching out into their communities and to be a part of solving their problems. Number one, identifying what the problems are in the community and number two helping to solve those problems in a Christ-like manner, using the Bible, putting it into practice. And, friendship evangelism is very important too.” Funding is needed to help save lives.

(India)–Next, the Hindu extremists, Bajrang Dal, appear to be in military training, according to news reports. Many Christians believe they could be the targeted by such activity, because anti-Christian violence is on the rise. This is especially true in the Indian states where anti-conversion laws exist. Most recently, police say Bajrang Dal activists were involved in an attack on a group of Christians in Central Gujarat early this week. Continue to pray for believers being tested for their faith.

(USA)–Seven to nine-year olds in the United States are catching the vision for evangelistic outreach. Teen Missions International[2] recently held a special camp called the “Peanut Boot Camp” with the goal of introducing pre-teens to missions. The young people did construction, and ministered at a nursing home and baked cookies for a local police station. Teen Missions officials say one young girl was able to share the gospel with a sheriff’s deputy. Pray that this camp will give them a boldness to share their faith.

(Brazil)–Meanwhile, street children in Brazil are the focus of ministry for BCM International[3] . BCM is a ministry that uses Bibles Clubs and more to lead people to Christ. BCM’s Maria Gusmao says the need for this type of outreach is great. “More than 20-million are street kids. So, the street kids are all over the place. Where ever you walk, you will meet street kids. They’re in the streets asking you for food and asking for money. They will even steal from you if you’re not careful.” Gusmao says they’ve seen success as they minister the Good News to these young people. “Right now, we have 19 Bible Clubs in different slums, as I said, and government places; and we are reaching more than 500 street kids. Our goal for this year is to have 20 Bible Clubs.” However, funding and more workers are needed to help the program expand further.
