HMONG HOUSE CHURCH LEADER ARRESTED IN VIETNAM
In the Voice of the Martyrs April 2003 newsletter we published the account of the beating of Mua Bua Sinh. The Hmong Christian leader was beaten by the police and died on 7th August 2002.
In the same article there is a picture of Mua Say So, the brother of Mua Bua Sinh. The police in Dien Bien Dong district, Lai Chau province arrested Mua Say So on 24 April 2003. There are two charges against him.
– Mua Say So is said to be guilty of maliciously spreading false information. He is said to have denounced the police who beat Mua Bua Sinh who, as a result, died on 7th August 2002. The police said that was wrong information because Mua Bua Sinh was beaten on 13 April 2001 and he died on 7th August 2002.
– The police ordered Mua Say So to restore the altar worship, but he did nothing.
We believe the reason Mua Bua Sinh died was the result of heavy beatings by the police. After the beatings he went to the District Hospital, but needed further treatment and went to the military hospital #103 in Hanoi. Eventually he went back to his village in the mountains, but he never recovered and died in August 2002.
One Christian brother just came from the mountains to tell us that they will put Mua Say So in jail, probably for 6 years.
Mua Say So is a brave man who is not frightened by the police. When they gave him the rice for a meal, he gave thanks to the Lord before he ate it. The police said he disregarded them when he acted like that. Mua Say So said: “Judge for yourselves if it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God” (Acts 4:19).
