(Liberia)–We begin today’s news in Liberia, where mortars hit Monrovia, shattering a rebel truce. As the death toll rises, the U-S pledged support for a peacekeeping operation in Liberia. Although the politics sound good, the people are afraid. That often points them to the peace of Christ. SIM’s[1] Dr. Howard Brandt. “People, of course, are pleading with us to be on the air. Our problem, right now, is generator fuel. We can’t get any generator fuel and so, we’ve been broadcasting until the last drop of the generator fuel is finished, and then, of course, we’ll be off the air.” Brandt says because of their ministry, in crisis, people lean heavily on their staff. At this point, several hundred refugees have sought shelter at Radio Station ELWA in Monrovia. Please pray. “We really need to pray for peace, of course, for the country. But, I think we need to really pray for the Christians in the country, too. I don’t think many of us have any idea that there are as many as there are and how they’ve been suffering. There are a lot of issues here. I think that we’re praying that God will purify His church through all the suffering that is there.”

(Liberia)–Next, humanitarian aid groups view the latest hostilities in Liberia with frustration. With security virtually non-existent in the capital city, Monrovia, emergency supply distribution slows down to a crawl. The supplies, such as food and blankets, are there, but lead relief workers are not. World Vision’s[2] Eleanor Monbiot was evacuated earlier this week to Sierra Leone from the U.S. Embassy in Monrovia after fighting intensified. Please pray for the team members as the meet the physical and spiritual needs of the Liberians.

(Nigeria)–Theological education is the key to reaching the African continent with the Gospel. CB International[3] is supporting NEGST, the Nairobi Evangelical Graduate School of Theology. CBI’s Hanz Finzel says they just graduated 40 new students. Finzel says the curriculum isn’t just giving them knowledge. “They are fully accredited, but their curriculum is practically oriented so that they have to be people who are involved in ministry, who have a ministry background, as well as practical ministry assignments during their education so that we’re not just filling up their heads, but we’re filling up their hearts.” Finzel says supporting this type of national education is essential. “I’ve seen a lot of times where people will come here to America and go to our seminaries for training and the problem is often times they won’t go back to the country they came from.” Sponsors are needed to help even more students.

(USA)–Meanwhile, Life Action Ministries[4] is asking people to pray for their “new singer training” taking place in the United States. The training began Monday with young people from all over the country. They will be filling positions on several traveling revival ministry teams, helping to communicate the message of revival. Pray that these young people will be effective in seeing hearts renewed and lives changed.

(Philippines)–And, in the 4th part in our series on New Tribes Missionaries[5] Martin and Gracia Burnham, Gracia tells tells us about her rescue after crossing a muddy logging road in the Philippines. “The military had seen our footprints and they’d been following us all day and they just opened up on us. Right away I was wounded, and came to rest next to Martin and he was bleeding from his chest. My job was to make them think I was dead too and I was just laying totally still. And, when the shooting became less sporadic I started just kind of moving my hand around. They saw me right away and as they drug me up the hill, I looked back and I knew he was dead. They called a helicopter and we left Martin just laying there in the rain and that was awful.” Tomorrow, the final part of our interview. [6]
