Typhoon devastates South Korea, Christian radio uninterrupted. South Korea (MNN)–Topping the news, called the “typhoon of the century,” the storm that roared through South Korea last weekend threatens to slow the country’s economic recovery. The typhoon left a trail of wreckage that caused well over one billion dollars’ worth of damage. Far East Broadcasting Company’s[1] Gregg Harris tells us how their stations fared. “We maintain ten local stations throughout the country. Five of them were affected, in that they lost power. But, we were glad to report that we actually were able to stay on the air by using generated power overnight, so we didn’t lose any airtime.” Harris says ministry is expected to continue as the population picks up the pieces. “Each station will be able to respond, individually, from a programming standpoint, to the needs of the listeners. They’ll be able to work with the local churches in rallying support, in making announcements that are going to be pertinent to people who need help. A second man is sentenced in connection with the murders of three mission workers in Yemen. Yemen (MNN)–Meanwhile, an Islamic extremist was sentenced to death four days ago, for assassinating a politician and coordinating the shootings of three Southern Baptist[2] hospital workers. According to the Associated Press, Ali al-Jarallah was convicted for planning the attack on a hospital in Jibla, Yemen, that resulted in the deaths of three International Mission Board medical workers. The Jibla hospital remains active, having re-opened with fewer beds and workers, but is dedicated to sharing the hope of Christ with the Yemenis. Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5138

Millions of students gather at flag poles in the United States USA (MNN) — About three million young people gathered around flag poles in the United States yesterday, for the 14th Annual See You At the Pole. It’s a student-initiated and student-led prayer movement. This year Mission Network News received many reports from students indicating their prayers focused on a number of issues, including evangelism. “I think it’s an amazing thing to be able to go outside the norm in a public school and stand up outside, as people are coming in, and just allow them to see the praise and the community that we have here. It was an awesome opportunity to show people that we are Christians, that we stand up. Even today, I talked with someone and he rededicated his life. A lot of times, you feel like you’re alone. (It helps) just knowing that there are other kids here and that you’re community. It’s amazing to see just how many people came. School is so hard, of all places, just to fellowship with friends. And, you feel like an individual and you come here and you see everyone else that’s worshiping. It just makes it a lot better.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5141

School’s start heightens anticipation for ministry this year. USA (MNN)–Next, as students in the United States are now back in school, an organization is excited about ministry this year. Denny Rydberg is the President of Young Life[3] , a ministry reaching out to students. Rydberg says today’s generation of young people seem more wounded because of broken homes and societal pressures. “But, at the same time there’s the God’s shaped vacuum in everyone’s heart. And, if we can reach out to kids and befriend them, I think kids are still real open to the Gospel. We haven’t found a big “fall-off” in terms to kids responding to Christ when they haven an opportunity to hear the message.” Rydberg says prayer is needed as they reach out to over one-million students this year. “These are one-million kids we know by name. We consider it a big deal to know kids by name and know a little about them. So, when I’m talking about a million kids, these are a million kids around every state in the Union.” Rydberg says about a-third of them ypically give their hearts to Jesus during the year. A women’s ministry celebrates an annivesary. USA (MNN)–And, the “Revive Our Hearts” radio ministry is two years old this month. Parent organization, “Life Action Ministries”[5] shares the Lord has opened the doors for growth through the Biblical and practical teaching of Nancy Leigh DeMoss. The ministry is aimed at helping women practically apply the Word of God to every area of their lives and relationships.
