Massive earthquake shakes Japan; fails to move believers. Japan (MNN)–We begin today in Japan, where the island nation recorded its strongest earthquake in almost a decade on Friday. Registering eight points on the Richter scale, damages were minor, given the quake’s intensity. Over the weekend, residents in affected areas were on alert for tsunami. Evangelical Baptist Mission’s[1] Paul Jackson says due to location, the camp they recently built was undamaged. “The earthquake was considerably to the north. In fact, our folks didn’t even feel it, so they were far enough south that it didn’t really didn’t have any impact on them at all; we’re grateful for that. They’ve been through these kinds of things before. I asked them if there was any particular precautions they needed to take, and they seemed to be pretty comfortable with the situation.” Jackson supports prayer for the EBM teams on location, especially since they just finished their first camp season. “This is a remarkable facility, and it is being use to reach teenagers for Christ, as well as families. Water sites in Iraq pave the way for the hope of Christ. Iraq (MNN)–Elsewhere, Iraq’s public works minister says only half of Iraqis have access to safe drinking water. The Southern Baptist International Mission Board[2] is responding to the need with a water tank project in central Iraq. 30 secure sites for the tanks have been located, and most of the bases have been built with concrete tanks attached. Once the taps are installed, the water tanks can be filled with clean water. A Christian group has been invited to the Muslim world, but they can’t go. Central Asia (MNN) — For many organizations being allowed into a Muslim country to do ministry is nearly impossible. But, being allowed in isn’t the problem facing Living Water International.[3] Living Water’s Jerry Wiles. “We have some inroads to do some projects in Iraq and Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Mongolia. And, those would all be brand new areas that we have not worked in before. It’s time and money. Because if we have enough money to go into those areas, we can do it, because we have the technology, we have the people, we have all the other resources available.” Wiles says they’ll be providing more than just clean water. “So, while we’re primarily involved in drilling water wells and providing integrated water solutions, our main objective is the kingdom of God. Because, if we just provide water without taking the Gospel we’re missing what we’re all about.” One-point-one billion people worldwide need clean safe water. Children of Belize hear the Gospel in school Belize (MNN)–The Gospel message is having an impact on the children of Belize. Worldwide Christian Schools recently expanded their Central American ministry to include those students living near Mexico. Spokesman Steven Guerink says they have been trying to work with local schools to reach more children through Christian educaion. “We’re working with several independent schools in Belize. Our goal in this country is to foster national cooperation between schools as together we provide access to Christian education for the children of Belize.” WWCS looks for areas in which they can develop Christian schools, share the Gospel and prepare the students for further ministry. “We’re looking for a mission team to be provided and for prayer for Pastor Tate and his school teachers as they reach out to children with the gospel of Christ through Christian education.” Earlier this year teams were able to build an addition to some already existing schools they currently operate in other parts of the world. Believers in Colorado gather for teaching in the Old Testament. USA (MNN)–And, Walk Thru The Bible[4] is looking forward to its largest Walk Thru the Old Testament event ever in Colorado Springs. The seminar is slated for October 19, with 7,000 participants. Walk Thru the Bible seminars are popular because instructors come from a wide variety of backgrounds, and they are trained to represent the Bible’s content rather than interpret it.
