Ivory Coast’s predicament touches a broadcast ministry. Ivory Coast (MNN)–Our newscast begins today in the Ivory Coast, where rebels have pulled out of a coalition government and skirmishes have resumed. The area remains unstable, although international pressure is mounting for a return to peace talks. HCJB World Radio[1] Chairman, Ron Cline says the volatility has had an impact on their broadcast outreach. “We have one and a half radio stations in Ivory Coast–one in Abidjan, and half a one in Korhogo. I don’t think it’s on the air. It was being put on the air when the battles started.” Cline says their Abidjan team is moving forward with ministry. He urges prayer for believers because of a new challenge presented by Libya and Kuwait. “We broadcast programs of hope and encouragement to the people. We broadcast the gospel of peace. We broadcast the fact that Muslims and Christians can live together in peace. Christians push evangelism as the country nears it bicentenial celebration. Haiti (MNN) — Next, evangelistic outreach is the focus of national Christians in Haiti, as the country prepares to celebrate 200 years of freedom. Evangelist Sammy Tippit was there recently to hold Gospel meetings. He says one gathering presented a unique challenge. “One young man, who was evidently involved in voodoo, tried to put a curse on the team. He broke through the crowd and grabbed a chair and started swinging at the crowd and at me and he had to be subdued by men. So, it was quite a scene there. But, in spite of all those types of things, we still saw the Lord move and people come to know Christ.” Tippet says 200 years ago the country was dedicated to the Devil. “This evangelistic meeting was a part of the large plan to bring the nation and to call the nation to repent of that and to turn totally and completely to Jesus Christ. Mission leaders fight preconceived ideas about Europe as outreach slowly moves forward. Europe (MMN) — Mission leaders are facing a European misconception as they reach Europe with the Gospel. Greater Europe Mission’s Ted Noble says many people believe Europe is Christianized and has already been reached, but Noble says true believers are few. “Of the 27 countries we work in 14 have less than one-percent and most of those less than half of one-percent evangelical. So, when you think of Europe think about the place that actually has fewer evangelicals than even most of the Islamic countries of the world.” Noble says while older adults have been negatively influenced by the state church, young people haven’t. “They’ve had no contact with the church. So, there’s a new openness to spirituality as a whole. People think of Europe as a place that’s burned over with the Gospel. The last generation was, but this generation has never been touched. New video brings Gospel to extreme sports enthusiasts International (MNN)–Elsewhere, a new extreme sports DVD is aimed at presenting the Gospel message to teens who are part of the skating and BMX culture. The Luis Palau Evangelistic Association[2] is developing an outreach evangelistic DVD titled “Livin’ It” which will present the Gospel and contain resources to equip believers for evangelism and follow-up. Uruguayans embark on a missions trip to Bolivia Bolivia (MNN) And, four members of a Christian church in Uruguay are embarking on a short-term missions trip to Bolivia this month. Grace Ministries International[3] says the group will help support their two missionary families ministering in Bolivia. They are part of the national church organization that focuses on evangelism and leadership training.
