Liberia fighting erupts again Liberia (MNN)–We begin today in Liberia, where the United Nations’ peace keeping effort has begun in earnest. Even as the peacekeepers take their posts, fierce fighting erupted, shattering an interval of peace. World Vision’s[1] Paul Sitnam, speaking from Liberia, says their teams are watching security measures carefully. “We made some tentative forays into where the fighting was and the areas beyond, and all appears calm, so some workers are at health clinics where there’s not much danger.” At least half a million Liberians are described as displaced, according to Word Vision. Sitnam says they share the hope of Christ through their humanitarian efforts. “Our work still continues, it hasn’t been completely cut off. People can keep praying for us in that manner, that we make the right judgments, conditions here improve, and that we can go out and do our work.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5200

Fire damages a Christian children’s home in Indonesia. Indonesia (MNN)–We turn next to Indonesia, where fire severely damaged a children’s home. According to partner Christian Aid Mission’s[2] John Lindner, news of the crisis reached them only recently. While the incident was most likely an accident, Lindner says they need help to replace lost school supplies, clothes and living quarters for 100 children. “A lot of these children came from impoverished families. Some came from families that have suffered persecution elsewhere and were brought here because they had no home. The children are cared for, they are loved , they are taught Christian principles and Bible training and given schooling. So, they find the love of Christ in this home.” Ministry leaders are praying for funds to renovate the damaged third floor and replace damaged goods. Humanitarian relief and prayer waters the seeds of the Gospel in Cuba. Cuba (MNN)–Cuba appears to be emerging from a cloud of oppression. News of the increased freedoms travels fast, and serves as encouragement to ministries. Food For The Hungry’s[3] Ben Homan says they’re especially targeting Cuba’s church this month. “We’ve intervened with some emergencies in the last year or so in Cuba that have not just been Food For The Hungry taking the actions, but we’ve been empowering the churches to step up to the plate and show people that God’s love is very tangible and very real.” Homan describes this course of action as one that helps move them toward their goal. “One of the things that Food For The Hungry is doing in Cuba is training church leaders to have a mindset of reaching out in physical and spiritual ways to demonstrate God’s love.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5202

Fewer twentysomethings are being found in churches in the United States. USA (MNN) — We turn next to the United States where Barna Research suggests that three out of 10 people in their 20’s, who grew up in the church, aren’t attending after graduation. American Missionary Fellowship’s[4] Lee Isley says he’s aware of the problem. He says they’re already addressing it through their Biblical ‘Learning Communities’. “We believe as we engage people in just studying the Bible, that the Bible itself will transform people. And, having been transformed as children and youth we pray that transformation will manifest itself in young adulthood.” Isley says missionaries are needed to help. “We’re looking for 20 missionaries who are committed to establishing 5 Bible studies a year.” Isley says funding is needed to help support this outreach. A missionary service agency celebrates 100 years of flight. USA (MNN) — And finally, tomorrow is an historic day at a mission agency in the United States. JAARS[5] , an organization that speeds Bible translation by providing quality services for Wycliffe Bible Translators and others, is holding their ‘Wing to the World’ celebration, celebrating 100 years of flight. JAARS Missionary Pilot Roger Krenzin. “We’re going to have some presentations I’m going to do on the Wright Brothers and that legacy that they left us with man carrying airplane. And then, we’re celebrating mission flight around the world and how the airplane has been used in missions.” According to Krenzin, even though missionary aviation is a known necessity of evangelism, there’s a great need for more workers. “At them moment we could place 10 pilot mechanics in some of the countries where we work if we had them.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5203
