Jakarta awakes to new reality–Christians are encouraged. Indonesia (MNN)–Topping the news, as the one year anniversary of the bomb blasts in Bali passes, Jakarta awakes to a new reality. One in which terrorist activity has ingrained itself into the culture. Muslim radicals, rooted in the society, are threatening the Christians throughout the island nation. HCJB World Radio’s[1] Ron Cline explains why this is why it is so important to have a presence in Indonesia. “The local Christian radio station–ministering to a community, in that community’s language, with that community news. Some of those stations are getting bombed. Some of those broadcasters are getting shot. The persecution is horrendous in some sites, but the local radio is what you’re talking about as an opportunity to educate the Christians.” Aside from the funding needs, Cline details their greatest prayer need. “Workers….people who are willing to man those radio stations. New media means new paths to ministry in India. India (MNN)–Next, despite word of growing harassment believers face in India, one film ministry looks to its future there. Dayspring International’s[2] John Gilman says they are reformatting their all-Indian acted life of Christ movie to DVD. Going digital allows more portable equipment, which means the film can be shown in homes. “This is like a new day for our film evangelism ministry. We are just so excited about it because we will be able to show the film in virtually every nook and corner without any restrictions. It would just give us a wonderful opportunity.” That brings the anti-conversion laws to mind. Gilman explains they work within the law. “There are a few militants who will show up from time to time to stop it and they have the ideas that this is an attempt to convert or bribe people to a Western religion. Teens from the United States and Canada helped lead hundreds to Christ in Camaroon. Camaroon (MNN) — Young people in Cameroon are turning to Christ thanks to 16 young people from the United States and Canada. According to Tom Maher (mah-HAHR) with Teen Missions International these trained young people went to Cameroon and held evangelistic boot camps for nationals. “They did some training with the national young people in drama, puppets, and music classes. And, the results after the summer of their boot camp they went out and did door to door evangelism and they saw over 3,000 people come to know Christ through their efforts.” According to Maher young people need to be involved in evangelism because 60-percent of the population is under the age of 18. He says there’s one major step that needs prayer. “We’re preparing to run a Bible school in 2004. And so, hopefully we’ll have a dozen or so students from our boot camp wanting to serve the Lord and be a missionary.” Maher says prayer and funding is needed to help build and support Teen Mission’s Bible school. Guerilla warfare takes its toll on mission work in Peru. Peru (MNN)–Meanwhile, rebel forces are making their way into the Peruvian jungles to visit and recruit tribal youth for their cause. Open Doors[3] reports that many youth from the Ashaninka and Yanesha tribes in Peru are often swayed by the Shining Path rebels. In spite of the interference, missionary workers in the jungles continue to minister and ask prayer for protection while they witness and share the Gospel message. A race brings awareness to need in Kenya. Kenya (MNN)–And, Kenya’s First International Women’s AIDS Run attracted more than 10,000 participants last month. The 10K event took place in Nairobi to express the women’s solidarity and dedication to fight the spread of AIDS in their country. The run was lead by Kenya’s First Lady and was endorsed by several government ministers.
