Christian workers are taking precautions as violence mounts. Bolivia (MNN) — We begin today in Bolivia where more than 50 people have been killed in political violence. Violence is mounting in opposition to President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada’s free market policies. Food For The Hungry’s Ben Homan says staff members are taking precautions. “Our staff is not allowed to even go into our offices and our operations because of the security situation. So, in terms of function right now, the entire country is in state of alert” Homan says FHI helps Bolivian families physically and spiritually through the local church. He says the situation requires prayer. “The way the situation is right now is that it is an opportunity for the people of Bolivia to get on their knees and to pray for their nation. Certainly, we’re doing that as a staff team. And, the Gospel is not going to be stopped. No political change, no change in the actual situation will stop the forward move of the Gospel. Fire claims a Christian radio station’s studios; ministry continues, despite the obstacles of finance and winter. Mongolia (MNN)–Next, plans are moving forward for the rebuilding of Far East Broadcasting Company’s[2] Mongolia station. In January, the Ulaan-Baatar facilities of WIND-FM, were virtually destroyed by a slow-moving, hard-to-put-down electrical fire. FEBC’s Chris Slabaugh details their progress, nearly ten months later. “We’re going to get the foundation and the footers in before the real winter (cold) sets in for the winter (season). Then, we’re going to have to let it set until next spring to start the construction of the walls and that kind of stuff.” Slabaugh says the building plans are right on schedule. He adds that the fire was a blessing in disguise. God opened doors for their ministry. “We were able to rent a building directly behind where our previous building was; it was a residence, a home. We rented it and converted it and so, we’ve never been off the air, ever. I think the longest we were off the air was, maybe, several hours. National Christians around the world are reaching the world with the Gospel. World (MNN) — Historic mission fields are now becoming a mission sending force. It’s a new phenomenon that’s taking place in much of the world, according to Doctor David Shibley of Global Advance. Shibley says there’s a three front move into the 10/40 Window. “From the East, by Chinese Christians, there are up to 100,000 Chinese believers that have already been trained in cross cultural missions. From the African continent they are committed to taking the Gospel into North Africa. And then from Latin America, of course a tremendous move that’s been going on for several years.” Shibley says Global Advance is helping this moment to Great Commission outreach buy holding ‘Frontline Shepherd’s Conferences.’ “Through our ‘Frontline Shepherd’s Conferences’ we have become, by the Grace of God, something of a breeding ground for the Holy Spirit to place missions passion in many thousands of pastors. God answers prayer for church plant in Russia. Russia (MNN)–Elsewhere, ninety-thosuand people live in Derbent, in the republic of Dagestan in the Caucasus, Russia, but there is no church there. Now a year later, New Tribes Mission[4] reports their teams, working with believers in neighboring Krasnodar, have gone on several evangelistic trips and they hope to send a church-planting team in April next year. May the Lord continue His mighty works in the Caucasus until every ethnic group is reached. Pray for the believers at Krasnodar Bible Church. Pray for the birth of the Derbent church. Young Life and stock drag racing partner to share the Gospel. USA (MNN)–And, Mike Edwards, now in his sixth year as a Pro Stock driver, is using his celebrity to raise awareness and funds to help an evangelistic ministry. The funding of several Christian foundations makes it possible for Edwards to carry the Young Life[5] logo. This partnership is a tool to help Young Life develop new avenues to reach young people with the hope of the Gospel and carries the theme of “Giving Kids Hope” throughout 2003.
