Victims of child labor are coming to Christ. India (MNN) — We begin today in India where there are 11 million children in abusive child labor situations. David DeGroot of Mission India[1] of Grand Rapids, Michigan is concerned about the problem. DeGroot says they’re seeing many child laborers, many of whom are slaves, come to their Bible Club programs. “These kind of kids pop up on our Children’s Bible clubs, often. They’re often able to sneak into our clubs in the evening hours. Some of them literally have to sneak in because their handlers, in some cases their slave masters, don’t want to release them, but they find ways to get into our clubs.” More than three million young people participate in the Bible club program. DeGroot says reaching them is important. “Almost half of India’s population is now children. You could almost say that India is a nation of children and these kids are all growing up. And, in just a few years these are going to be the leaders of India and these children need to be reached.” A 20-dollar gift can help 20 children hear the Gospel. Gospel spreads despite terrorist threats Colombia (MNN)–Next, missionaries working in the terrorist minefields of Colombia boldly proclaim Christ amid bombings and the gunfights of guerillas. According to Christian Aid Mission’s[2] Gabriel Prada, their workers are frequently caught in the crossfire. The guerrillas are also suspicious of evangelists. “When a small band of believers comes into these out-of-the-way communities, they believe that along with them, there are government people that have infiltrated these evangelical groups.” Prada says the unrest forced many to flee the fighting. Their unsettled condition makes them a fertile harvest field. “We are seeing many, many people come to the Lord. We are seeing many churches being planted. Missionaries are really taking the challenge of going to these very dangerous areas. Help on the way for tortured Christians in China. China (MNN) — According to Asia Harvest, Christians in China are regularly beaten, tortured and even killed because they’re sharing their faith illegally. House church leaders have described more than one-thousand leaders who have been crippled as a result of torture by authorities. Asia Harvest has established the China Living Martyrs Fund to assist them as many face extreme poverty and hardship as a result of their injuries. 25-dollars a month can help support them. Russian Ministries puts feet to mobilizing the local church. Siberia (MNN)–Elsewhere, a Siberian outreach through Russian Ministries is getting a boost. Russian Ministries'[3] Sergey Rakhuba says they’re partnering with Samaritan’s Purse and Operation Christmas Child. The gift-filled shoeboxes are a major support for the local church. “Lots of churches, here in America, and all over the world are participating in this project sending shoeboxes to those countries where churches can get then farther to their needy children.” The partnership, Rakhuba says, helps Russian Ministries toward its goal. “We’re trying to mobilize all these newly planted churches, especially in this area, where there was not that much Christian influence before, to reach out to children and the young generation, to schools, to orphanages, and especially children at-risk, with this new project called ‘Project Hope’. Bibles are needed in Haiti to fight Voodoo. Haiti (MNN) — And finally, the lack of Scripture in Haiti is creating a spiritual vacuum, opening the door to continued dependency on voodoo. That’s the word from the Bible League. Because the country is so poor, people can’t afford a Bible. Through “Project Philip,” the Bible League’s Bible study program, people can get a Creole Bible by working through a Bible study with a local Christian.
