Peace in Sudan could mean more problems for the country. Sudan (MNN) — Sudan tops today’s news as government and rebel leaders are trying to hammer out a peace deal before the end of the month. While evangelical leaders are hopeful for peace there’s something else looming on the horizon. EFCA International Mission Compassion Ministries Jim Snyder says refugee repatriation could be a huge problem. “There’s been virtually no preparation in the event that refugees might return. We’re talking 500,000 to 600,000 refugees plus in excess of up to 2-million internally displaced persons in southern Sudan.” Snyder says with the lack of food, medicine and housing this could be a human catastrophe. He says it will present spiritual opportunities. “For the evangelical church this is an open door that has never been available before. We’re hoping that through the demonstration of compassion that we’ll be able to open up people’s hearts and give them an opportunity then to come to the realization of what our faith is all about.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5450 [1]

A missions group sees four ways to the fulfillment of the Great Commission. International (MNN)– International terrorism and anti-American sentiment creates a hazard for missionaries from North America. The continued rise in incidents targeting those from the West is forcing mission groups to re-think strategy for this next year. Global Advance’s David Shibley says their focus moves toward the indigenous church. “We’re very excited about the potential of equipping national pastors and church leaders. I see them as, perhaps, the most pivotal of all groups for the fulfilling of the Great Commission.” Shibley outlines what he believes are four areas that will lead to the fulfilling of the Great Commission. “National pastors, themselves, particularly in the developing nations of the world; secondly, is the emergence of the great non-western missionary movement; third, are marketplace ministries… people seeing where they are placed as being their base of operations for advancing the Gospel; and then finally, the emerging youth missions movement.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5447

Gifts to poor Mexican children brings hope to the needy. Mexico (MNN) — Meanwhile, YUGO Ministires[4] is bringing joy to poverty stricken regions of Mexico this Christmas. Many children are faced with the daily struggles of poverty and don’t even know when they’ll eat they’re next meal. YUGO, through their “Project Joy” program is providing a Mexican child with their very own shoebox filled with gifts, toys, hygiene items and more. Inmates turn to Christ and are sharing their faith. Uganda (MNN) — And finally, a ministry is seeing the lowest of the low come to Christ in Uganda. According to CB International[5] convicted murders and thieves are finding hope. One prisoners says he’d beat up anyone who would talk about Christ, but that’s changed since being saved. Another inmate was a successful highway robber when police caught him. While in prison he gave his heart to Christ and now he’s witnessing to his fellow inmates.
