Unrest in Haiti not stopping short term missions Haiti (MNN) — We begin today in Haiti where violence that hit the impoverished nation of Haiti may be temporarily halted. A proposed settlement is being considered by both sides. 30 people have died in political unrest since September. However, the violence isn’t stopping the work of Men For Missions[1] , the layman’s voice of OMS International. Men For Mission’s Bill Evans. “Although we’re still very careful, our field missionaries help us to determine if they should be more focused in just working at the OMS compound in Cap Haitian. So, it hasn’t deterred any teams at this point. In fact we have our next team going in December 29th.” As many Haitians face hopelessness, Evans believes it can only be reclaimed through Christ. “I think with the tremendous illiteracy rate that exists in the country, really the only way to reach them with the Gospel is through their ears. Persecution against Christians increases in 2003. International (MNN) — Meanwhile, as 2003 draws to a close, Christians around the world continue facing incredible oppression. According to Open Doors with Brother Andrew[3] an estimated 200 million Christians face persecution, while up to 400-million more face discrimination or alienation for their faith. Persecution seems to have increased in North Korea, Indonesia and India. Continue to pray that this oppression will help strengthen the church and will be a testimony to unbelievers. A children’s ministry has new leader USA (MNN) — 62-years and counting. CBH Ministries[4] , formerly Children’s Bible Hour, continues to share the Gospel with young people, and now the ministry has new leadership. Terre Richie is the new Executive Director of CBH Ministries. Richie says her short-term focus will be on “Keys for Kids.” “We are going to work really hard for the first two or three months in marketing our Kids of Kids. That’s kind of our main-stay here. We really want to improve that inside and out. Improve the stories, update them. Make it look more like it’s for the year 2003-2004.” Richie says while the future is bright for ministry, funding issues are a concern. “As in every non-profit ministry, we’re suffering a little bit financially, but God is meeting our every need. Young Life Celebrates milestones at conference. USA (MNN) — Next, a ministry focused on evangelizing the youth of the word is gearing up for a special event. For the first time in four years Young LIfe’s[5] is gathering in Orlando, Florida for their ‘All Staff’ conference. Young Life’s Terry Swensen says more than three-thousand staff and spouses are expected to attend. He says they will… “look back over what we’ve done over the last four years, the way God has worked through Young Life. We will remember and celebrate the fact that in the last four years Young Life has increased in the number of ministries we have around the world by 150-percent.” Swensen says while they’ve seen success, this isn’t a time to tread water. “Young Life is burdened if you will by the realization that there are so many teenagers out there who are not hearing the Gospel. So, there’s a great sense that while we’ve come a long way, there are so many kids out there who we want to reach. Mexican pastors extend their library Mexico (MNN) — A number of Mexican pastors will receive a literary gift that will enable them to further their study of God’s Word. YUGO Ministries[6] , Inc. has collected funds and will provide twelve pastors with a number of serious study helps. The gift includes a study Bible, a Hebrew-Greek dictionary, theological dictionary and a Bible commentary. YUGO thanks thsoe who have participated in their appeal for books and continues to accept donations as they work at expanding the library of Mexican pastors.
