A Christian radio ministry says rumors of war in Kashmir prompt a tired populace to seek peace. India (MNN)–We begin today in Pakistan where there’s hope that next week’s peace talks with India will pave the way for a solution to all the disputes between the neighbors, including Kashmir. The region has been wracked with violence that has taken its toll on business, development and ministry. Words of Hope’s[1] Lee DeYoung says because of the instability, he couldn’t get more specific about their work there, but he shares: “Words of Hope is involved with some other organizations including EBA Radio, Gospel For Asia in broadcasts in the Kashmiri language to the people of Kashmir which is overwhelmingly Islamic.” DeYoung says disillusionment with years of war has had an interesting impact on the spiritual environment. “People who are certainly hungry for hope, programs that talk about the peace that comes only in Jesus Christ. The U-S dollar exchange hurting missions outreach Europe (MNN) — Meanwhile, western missionaries working in Europe are facing an economic challenge that’s not expected to get any better. The U-S dollar is exchanging with the Euro at a much lower rate. Greater Europe Mission’s[2] Devere Curtis says the situation’s different than two years ago. “In two years we’ve seen a drop in the value of the dollar of 49-percent. The bottom line is that some ministries have been cut short because of nothing more than this dollar weakness.” 80-percent of GEM’s missionaries are affected. Curtis is asking people to invest sacrificially because ministry is expensive in Europe. “It also cost God a lot. He sent his only son. SIM Radio’s broadcasts in Ethiopia help combat HIV/AIDS. Ethiopia (MNN)–Radio listeners in Ethiopia are responding in large numbers to a new Christian radio program on HIV/AIDS prevention and care. Until now there has been no radio broadcasting that emphasizes behavioral change through evangelistic means. SIM’s producers[4] plan to continue this life-saving effort as long as AIDS threatens the people of Ethiopia and funds are available to underwrite the program. Doubling the missionary force on target for CB International International (MNN) — Next, they’re trying to double their missionary force both in size and scope. CB International[5] made that announcement last January and fine progress is being made toward that goal. President of CB International Greg Gripentrog says they grew 10-percent last year and they have needs. “The recent down-turn in the economy for the last two years combined with the rapid expansion we’re going through right now, we have a major need for increased revenue as an organization. We’re asking the Lord in the next three years to provide an additional – close to a million dollars to help us with our expansion needs.” Gripentrog hopes to add 40 new missionary couples to the field this year and the growth is already underway. “We’ve already launched one new teams in an unnamed country of the Middle East and we have some others on the drawing board this year.” Gripentrog hopes have an impact on a quarter-million national leaders once the goal is reached. Despite a moratorium on international adoptions, Bethany Romania moves forward with ministry. Romania (MNN)–And, Romania’s moratorium on international adoption continues to be in effect until the legislation on adoptions and child welfare is passed in the parliament and implemented. Bethany’s[6] adoption program remains closed until specifics are known. The agency continues other family services work in the country, in order to better manifest the love and compassion of Jesus Christ.
