Relief takes on another face in Bam, Iran. Iran (MNN)–We begin today’s broadcast in Bam, Iran, where the survivors are just beginning to realize a state of shock in the wake of December’s earthquake. The quake claimed 40-thousand lives, and left thousands more homeless. Food For The Hungry’s[1] Beth Allen says the healing is slow in coming. “It hits them very hard that there are people that are absent from their lives, that there are places that are absent from their lives. It hits them that their life will never return to normal, even though they have resumed what could be called a normal routine.” Allen says they did something unusual in the course of their relief effort. This time, teams set up several pieces of playground equipment. “Play is very important for children. It’s a very important part of their emotional development. This allows the children to have normal interaction with their friends in a time when normal interaction has really been disrupted.” Through their efforts with humanitarian relief and development, Food For The Hungry seeks to be the hands and feet of Christ to the hurting Iranians. The Gospel is the only remedy to Chechen/Russian violence Russia (MNN) — Next, violence between Chechen rebels and the Russian government is escalating with the Presidential Elections just one month away. Chechen rebels killed 39 people in the Moscow subway bombing. Russian Ministries[2] Sergey Rakhuba says the only thing that’s going help is changed lives, that why a three day seminar is underway teaching Chechens… “How to help them in their emotional struggles because of the war, spiritually, how to reach out with the Gospel to their own people. It’s so exciting to see that young church leaders are trying to reach out to these people with the message of hope.” Rukhuba says most Chechens are tired of the violence and want peace and are searching for it. New evangelistic vision catches fire in Kenya. Kenya (MNN)–A little over a year ago, Kenya’s President, calling himself a Christian, came to power promising to tackle corruption. Since then, what hindered ministry was rooted out, and Christians became freely optimistic about their future. Global Missions Fellowship’s[3] Dan Wilson says church leaders are looking for help. He explains one church planting strategy in Kenya. “We’ve been going into Kenya for about four years taking short-term teams in for about eight or ten days to do direct evangelism, and also discipleship that will be getting those new converts grounded in the word of God and then, hopefully, by the end of the week, we’ll have a fledgling little church that the mother church then, will nurture.” Wilson says that translates to a fiery evangelistic vision. “We’ve been seeing the churches come alive. We’ve seen churches that were only planted a year ago, taking part in planting a new work, or a cell group, or a mission point. A theological College in Kenya looks to expand Kenya (MNN)—The next phase of an expansion project for a theological college in Kenya is underway. The Scott Theological College in Kenya has been expanding their faciliities and programs and now is getting ready to build housing for faculty and married students. Africa Inland Mission[4] are also planning to add a diploma and master’s program for their institution. More Vietnamese people are able to understand the Gospel Vietnam (MNN)–Gospel radio programming continues to reach the Vietnamese people in a language they can understand. Far East Broadcasting Company[5] is now producing programs in more than 20 tribal languages in Vietnam. The group not only produces radio programs but provides on-air training to students.
