Christians in Iraq feel threatened. Iraq (MNN)–Topping the news, as deadly attacks continue in Iraq, Christians fear they may become the next terrorist targets. Southern Baptist International Mission Board’s[1] Mark Kelly says for Iraqi believers, the key to survival under Saddam Hussein was to not be his enemy or a friend of his enemies. “Because Iraq’s Christian communities did not ally themselves with Saddam’s enemies, he didn’t see them as enemies. So, they enjoyed a ‘protected’ status. I’m sure that the fear that the Christians feel is real. A lot of it may be connected to the uncertainty of the situation.” This means, with the fall of Hussein’s party, believers are marked. That makes overtly evangelistic work dangerous for Christians. However, Kelly reminds us, “God’s spirit isn’t a spirit of fear. We need to pray that God’s people would be filled with His peace. Dual language radio programming goes on the air in India India (MNN) — Next, while Hindu fundamentalism continues to be a thorn in the flesh of Christians in India, Christian radio programming is expanding into the region. Leading the Way with Michael Youseff[2] will begin airing their dual language program in India at the end of March. Leading the Way’s Yesdi Bhada. “The dual language program provides an opportunity for people to learn and practice English. And, right now English is becoming a languages of opportunity. So, with this program, they can listen to the Lord’s word and be able to practice English.” The Hindi language is the focus of this project, but Bhada says more languages are planned. “We also want to go into the Bengali language. As far as the Bengali is concerned we have been told our producers have been threatened and they are very concerned about even producing a dual language program.” Finances are needed to pay the translators, producers and air time. Christians beaten, humiliated for refusing to deny Christ India (MNN)–Open Doors reports Christian women from Orissa state, India, suffered beatings and public humiliation for refusing to give up their faith. When the attackers made further threats against them two weeks ago, the women and their families fled from the villages and took shelter in an evangelical church nearby. The pastor there won’t discuss his involvement, fearing Hindu reprisals against the church. The area has an active anti-evangelism, anti-Christian element. Revival in America’s youth is the focus of new outreach material USA (MNN) — Meanwhile, as many seek revival in the United States an organization supporting such a movement is targeting the youth. Life Action Ministries[3] has just released a new three week devotional called, “Revolution”. Life Action’s Russ Simonson says it’s… “calling kids and youth to come out of their status quo Christianity, their carnal culture, and to really become a person that lives for Christ with a passion and a vision to become and re-evolve to be more like the person of Jesus Christ.” Simonson says since youth of today want to know they have purpose in life, he believes the “Revolution” will have a major impact on the youth culture. “Once a Christian youth has gotten a vision of Christ, everything in his life will be radically changed. IBS releases new Bible for DRC Democratic Republic of Congo (MNN) — And finally, another people group in Africa has the Bible in a language they understand. The International Bible Society[4] launched its contemporary-language Kiyombe New Testament recently in the Democratic Republic of Congo. More than 350 church leaders welcomed the first-ever New Testament in Kiyombe, spoken by approximately one-point-five million Yombe people.
