Haiti continues to unravel; more missionaries leave. Haiti (MNN)–Topping the news, missionaries and aid workers continue their exodus out of Haiti this week. They join other Americans fleeing an uprising overwhelming the north. While not fearing rebel targeting, there is concern over crossfire issues. Mission Aviation Fellowship’s[1] Dennis Fulton says this rebellion is unlike the 1991 coup. “There’s no one taking over. It’s just becoming anarchy, and that’s what makes this one such a scary situation, is that as anarchy continues to spread throughout the country, there’s no rule of law, it’s just the whim of the mob. That’s what makes it difficult to try to realize where we should be and where we shouldn’t be.” Fulton says instability forced their evacuation, and is disruptive to remaining ministries. “We’ve decided to move our dependents out, the women and children. We’ll be taking them out this week. Violence in Haiti is affecting radio outreach Haiti (MNN) — Meanwhile, looting has erupted throughout Haiti as rebels have rejected a U-S backed peace plan. The unrest is presenting a challenge to those reaching people for Christ. Trans World Radio’s[3] Tom Corcoran says their facing the challenge of getting programs to their local stations. “We use several stations in Haiti to put programs out in addition to the Bonaire station. Because of the insurrection now distribution infrastructures have broken down. It’s not easy to get programs from place to another. We’ve tended to have to fall back on a short-term basis where we find people who are willing to travel from area to another to deliver programs for us.” While TWR has altered some of it’s programming, Corcoran says sharing Christ is the still focus. “We have five days a week of good solid Bible teaching. We kept that format in tact because people like that. And, the long term answer for people is not government intervention or military intervention, but changes of heart. North Korea tops a watch-dog list. International (MNN) — For the third straight year North Korea has the dubious distinction as being atop the Open Doors[4] “World Watch List.” That’s the annual list of countries where the intensity of persecution against Christians is high. Saudi Arabia is second, followed by Laos, Vietnam, Iran, Turkmenistan, Maldives, Bhutan, Myanmar and China. Newcomers to the top ten are Myanmar and China. Ghana’s church leaders look forward to training. Ghana (MNN)–Next, Ghana’s people are looking for support despite a wealth of local resources. The Oasis International Training Centre[5] is teaching people how to make the best use of their tools for a brighter future. Oasis International’s Ambrose Brennan says they’ve been looking ‘continuing education’ seminars for the church leaders in Ghana. “A lot of the churches are very big in evangelism, but sometimes not as thorough in following up in teaching and making disciples, so we’re really excited because we’re getting some pastors coming out to these seminars and we’re able to do some leadership training.” Brennan says their ministry extends to more than spiritual training. He explains technology training helps outreach too. “We’ve been able to distribute some computers to some government officials and pastors and in this way it kinds of help them do some administrative things. It’s kind of a little sideline to what we’re doing, but we see how the whole computer movement is really helping the Gospel in Ghana.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5725
