Civility in Newsgroups

There’s a quite brilliant weblog by Barbara Nicolosi, Executive Director Act One, Inc. (‘Writing for Hollywood’) titled ‘Churches of the Masses’.

(“Theaters are the new Church of the Masses – where people sit huddled in the dark listening to people in the light tell them what it is to be human.” -1930’s theater critic)

It has a Note to Visitors:

‘Please share your comments! Note, however, that _civility_ is considered a higher good than First Amendment rights here. Incivility will be uncivilly suppressed. Welcome to Our Kingdom!’

See http://www.churchofthemasses.blogspot.com/

I recommend this weblog for two reasons. It’s a brilliant commentary on modern cinema, and also for its encouragement to be mature in terms of ‘civility’.

A couple of times recently on this newsgroup I’ve been accused of espousing a belief diametrically opposed to what I actually believe.

Like: ‘You don’t believe the Bible to be God’s Word’ or ‘You’d prefer the ideas of man rather than God’.

Such statements are not only uncivil/uncouth, and erroneous, but do not help with mature, Christian dialog, and so I almost always ignore them.

That’s simply to say that when someone here addresses me and doesn’t get a response, that’s almost certainly the reason.

Have a nice day!

Shalom!
