Essential Beliefs

i understand what you meant about citing the importance of justice and love. and these two elements are central to our relationship with God and with others. christianity is about relationship. however, there are those who teach and follow a faith which is built upon another foundation. what is found in such systems is information which works counter to and directs people away from a real relationship with God and with others.

I responded: Our little systems – even theological systems – ‘have their day. They have their day and cease to be…’

Rabit:

then what aspects of truth shall we suggest will be fulfilled in the full light of day and will not cease?

My response:

Only about five:

1. God is One, creator of, and sustainer/life-giver to all living things.

2. Jesus Christ is the Word of God and Son of God.

3. The Bible is also the Word of God.

4. Jesus taught that Justice/love are the key kingdom/relational values

5. Christ shall come to judge the living and the dead.

Howzat?

Footnote to [3]. This is where I part company with liberals. But the authority/inspiration of the Bible is *derivative* from the authority of Christ (which is where I part company with most conservatives) hence the use of the little word ‘also’…

Rabit: in the end systems which present a different God, faith, and gospel

lead people away from justice and love.

Rowland:

As Jesus would say ‘You my son are not far from the kingdom :-)!

Rabit:

you and i might debate a great many things and still either of us be standing squarely in the light and flow of the kingdom. such matters

are non-essential in reguards to faith statements. but, is any statement concerning the nature of God and the nature of our salvation

negotiable?

Rowland:

Nope (if I remember it correctly)… At least my ‘heresy bells’ didn’t start ringing when I read it 🙂

Shalom!
