The growth of radical Islam in Central Asia prompts a response from an evangelist. Central Asia (MNN)–We begin today in Central Asia, where a wave of reports from the region shows rising Islamist activity. The groups are tailoring their recruiting efforts targeting individuals from the higher social strata of the dominant ethnic groups. Evangelist Sammy Tippit[1] says, “With the rise of radical Islam, I think that is symptomatic of a rise in the hunger of the hearts of people for something. They don’t have any other place to turn to but radical Islam, and they’re out there recruiting. I think right now, is the time for the average person to be able to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.” Tippit believes God is moving in this area during the turmoil. “We started a broadcast in Pakistan, just in the first of March, and we’ve had over a thousand written and called in responses of people giving their lives to Christ from all over the Middle East, Central Asia. Rwanda sees healing to a 10-year old wound. Rwanda (MNN)–Next, tomorrow marks ten years since the 1994 Rwandan genocide, in which an estimated 800,000 Rwandans were killed. World Vision[2] has played an important role in Rwanda’s restoration and will take part in a national commemoration day. Their teams, having invested 10 years of work through the hope and peace of Christ, are involved with reconciliation activities between the Hutus and the Tutsis. Please pray as healing continues. Christians reach out to minister war victims of Sudan. Sudan (MNN)–Sudan’s violence may be approaching the scale of Rwanda’s genocide ten years ago. Christians, living in an area sought by the Khartoum government, are being killed. In their isolation, believers cried out for support. Audio Scripture Ministries'[3] Tom Dudenhoffer. “Audio Scripture Ministries has been asked to help in the recording and distribution of several translation projects in the Sudan. What’s really interesting about this, is that I cannot give the languages out, but the response of the people has been really phenomenal. They’re very anxious to receive God’s Word.” Dudenhoffer says their release format, cassette tape, makes the project portable. He adds that security concerns make the distribution process non-traditional. “There is no formal distribution, like we think of a distribution project. It’s just a situation where we make the Scriptures available in audio through our people who are there on the ground, and the rest just seems to be something that God is doing.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5867

Mission workers in India take precautions with their communiques. India (MNN)–Meanwhile, mission agencies are finding themselves facing an interesting conundrum. Dave DeGroot is with Mission India of Grand Rapids, Michigan.[4] He says with the rise of radical Islam, they’ve had to be very careful about word choice when communicating with their teams in India. “There’s four words that seem to trigger the extremists and get them moving on searching to find out who we are. The word ‘evangelism’, for quite a while has been a word that puts us in the political arena. Lately, the words ‘conversion’, and ‘baptism’ have also been very sensitive.” In spite of the challenge, DeGroot says ministry will go on. “Our people in India aren’t changing the way they work, due to this. They’re continuing on; this is not hampering our work. It is effecting the way we communicate. I think other Christian organizations are starting to find this too. It’s a year of change for work in Lithuania. Lithuania (MNN)–And, Bethany Christian Services[5] is expanding their ministry into Lithuania. It has been a long time in the preparation, but the adoption agency recently placed their first Lithuanian child with a family. This special needs child is now home and doing well. A second family is waiting for court assignment to travel and meet their 3-year-old son.
