Renewed sectarian violence in Indonesia causes concern for some missions groups. Indonesia (MNN)–We begin today in Indonesia’s Molucca area where sectarian violence erupted again. Riots between Christians and Muslims left more than two dozen dead. Mission Aviation Fellowship’s[1] Dave Wunsch says, while their teams won’t be directly affected, their concern turns to the spread of unrest in the ‘hot spot’ parts of the island nation. “Possibly, the flare-up happened because of the elections. They just had parliamentary elections and in July, they’re going to be appointing a president, or electing a president–the parliament will be. So, there’s a little bit of instability there because of some of those things going on.” Because instability is disruptive to all outreach, Wuncsh urges prayer for ministry teams. “Pray that the Lord will give them the strength and the wisdom in how to react in there. How do you react, you know, as Christians? Pray for them that the Lord will give them wisdom and how to respond, how to act. Those of us in the States can’t even fathom the fear and what these folks are going through.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5949

Pakistan’s blasphemy law is used to harass believers. Pakistan (MNN)–Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Blasphemy Law is often a tool used to intimidate Christians. An accusation is frequently all that’s needed to put the alleged blasphemer behind bars. For the Christian community, that’s had a ‘chilling effect’ on public expressions of faith. However, Evangelist Sammy Tippit[2] says people are starving for the truth, pointing to the launch of a Gospel program in the area. “Our broadcast has had tremendous response. We’ve had literally thousands of phone calls, emails, letters, faxes, that have come in from Pakistan and the rest of the region.” Pakistan’s Christian community claims to be some four million strong in a country of 150 million. Tippit says the church continues to grow, despite obvious persecution. “My initial response to what is happening is that no matter how hard any group would try to stop people from coming to Christ, they can’t do it because God’s spirit is at work, and the church is standing strong.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5950

A Christian development group moves to bring dignity to a Jamaican slum. Jamaica (MNN)–“Ellerslie Pen” is a slum located behind the Food For The Poor Warehouse in Spanish Town, Jamaica. It’s a poverty-stricken community marked by crumbling shacks, filth and hopelessness. Food For The Poor’s[3] Angel Aloma says they’ve committed to a redevelopment project there. He describes the new dignity he observed during a recent visit. “In the new homes, there were beautiful little gardens around them. They had planted all kinds of little plants, and trees and flowers around it. They take a tremendous amount of pride, but what is most inspiring about the whole thing, that at the end of the visit, the residents of the community asked if we could stand in a circle and pray with them.” Aloma says the act of help, coupled with the Gospel is changing the face of sorrow. “This community that has been known in the past for strife and violence has become a God-fearing community. That is such a joy for me and for Food For The Poor, and such a victory for Christ.” Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5951

Mission group in Haiti continues to help the needy Haiti (MNN)– For Haiti With Love[4] continues to try and meet the needs of the people of Haiti. French forces are patrolling the streets but they are small in number and many of the country’s poor still suffer physical abuse. There is no air service to Cap Haitien and mail service is basically non-existence. Without incoming mail from the states no money for food is being received. In spite of the condition, For Haiti with Love’s clinic has been able to stay open to help the injured and share the love of Christ. Full Story: http://mnn.gospelcom.net/article/5948

SAT-7 receives a matching gift International (MNN)– SAT-7[5] is the only analogue Arabic Christian service available in the Arab world and soon viewers can watch programming seven days a week. A number of people don’t have digital receivers and can only access a limited number of channels and SAT-7 is one of those few. SAT-7 received a large matching grant that would restore Christian programming on a daily basis and they are looking for churches and ministries to help meet their goal.
