Dear Praying Friends,
Just a word of clarification on the urgent prayer request I sent out last week. Some wondered if it was an Internet hoax. Not so! A mass rally of perhaps a million of India’s untouchables is indeed planned for November 4th. I have received confirmation of this from several who know the parties involved personally. And there is a lot of excitement and disturbance about this stirring among the untouchables in India. You can check it out at these web sites:

I’m told there was a similar rally planned for mass conversion to Buddhism October 14th. That did not happen. Subsequently the leader Ram Raj did come to Colorado Springs to explore Christianity, and is indeed now very interested in seeing his people turn to Christ en masse. God willing, as many as a million untouchables will hear the gospel at a potentially historic rally on November 4th.
However, I’d like to add to my earlier request that there is a great danger of a superficial inoculation against the gospel, and even violence. There are powerful political and social forces at work here. It is doubtful that many of the untouchables have any clear or full understanding of the hoped for spiritual nature of this rally. They are desperate for political and economic change, however it comes.
In short, there is great opportunity for evil, and for good. So we must PRAY. I’ll let you know what I hear about the outcome, good or bad, modest or wonderful.
Live Jesus!
Dave

URGENT PRAYER REQUEST
Let me share a wonderful moment in history with you. For a change we can see it coming and can look forward to it and pray now!. The “untouchables” or ‘outcasts’ of India have been at the bottom of the caste system for 3000 years. Hinduism has taught that there is no escape for them, so they have had the worst jobs, if any at all, and lived in total poverty. They truly are the poorest, most deprived, hungry, shunned, scorned, condemned, and most victimized people in India. They number between 260 million to 300 million people (about the population of the United States).
Coming from these ‘untouchables’ is a new 43 year old leader by the name Ram Raj. He may be the highest educated ‘untouchable’ (Ph.D) and highest placed (Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax for Delhi) in all India. He has lead these outcasts to formally denounce Hinduism for what it has done to them for generations and to consider another religion. (In many areas ‘untouchables’ are not even allowed to enter a Hindu temple; so, why be Hindus?)
Islam has approached them and offered much. If the Muslims had the dominant religion in India they would control about 1/3 of the people on earth. However, the events of September 11 have caused the ‘untouchables’ to move away from Islam. Buddhism is very attractive to them and the USA attraction to it, via our movie personalities, has impressed them. Some have already converted to this religion.
Now, the hard facts! If the ‘untouchables’ respond to Christianity: It will be the greatest revival of all time. There will need to be people to conduct mass baptisms. (They already have 5000 Indian pastors lined up). There will need to be churches available to these new converts. (Many church planters are in the plan). There will need to be trained pastors for these churches. Radio could be greatly used in the follow-up process…(we will need to be proactive). The churches in India will need to accept ‘untouchables’ in their services (Reeducation). It will change India forever.
You might also want to pray that the media will be aware of what God does at this amazing event and report it with awe. Our loving God will provide salvation – we need to provide prayer support for this event! I know in my heart, you are up to the task as ‘watchmen on the wall’!
Praying for India’s ‘Untouchables’
A practical guide following the ‘ACTS’ principle (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication) – by GC Foliente
1. Praise God for He is the Lord Most High (Ps 47), our Maker and the Rock of our salvation (Ps 95), because He is compassionate and gracious, and abounding in love (Ps 103), . (He deserves to be praised for who He is)
2. Confess your sins to God (I Jn 1:8-10) and then thank him for His forgiveness (v. 9), for the blessedness of being forgiven (Ps 32:1-2) and for the peace it brings (Jn 14:27). ‘The prayer of a righteous man (i.e., one who is right with God) is powerful and effective.’ (Jas 5:16b)
3. Thank Him for your own salvation – that He chose you (Jn 15:16; Eph 1:4), that in was by His grace (Eph 2:8-9) – for every spiritual (Eph 1:3) and material blessings you have received from Him, and for previous answers to your prayers . (He deserves to be praised for what He has done)
4. Thank Him for the Christians and the Christian churches and ministries in India and their faithful witness among the Indian people. Thank Him for the ministry of the Bibles to the World in India.
5. Pray Bibles to the World will have God’s wisdom (Jas 1:5; Eph 1:17) and power (Eph 1:19) when he presents the gospel to one million ‘untouchables’ on Sunday, 04 Nov, in Delhi. Pray for his personal safety and the safety of his family and co-workers.
6. Pray that God’s word, as presented by Rochunga and read by the ‘untouchables’ in their own languages, will divide ‘soul and spirit’ (Heb 4:12) and accomplish its purpose (Isa 55:11).
7. Pray for the one million ‘untouchables’ who will hear the gospel on Sunday, 04 Nov, that God will prepare their hearts to hear the Good News (that the seed will fall on good soil; Lk 8:1-15), that the Holy Spirit will provide counsel (Jn 14:25) and bring conviction and harvest (Eph 1:13-14).
8. Pray for Ram Raj, specifically, that he – like Cornelius (Acts 10), Lydia (Acts 16:11-15) and the Philippi jailer (Acts 16:31) – will be won to the Lord with the rest of his ‘household’ – the rest of the 260 to 300 million ‘untouchables’ in India.
9. Pray for the churches, missions and ministries in India to implement and facilitate baptism, follow-up, training (II Tim 2:2) and integration in ways that will bring glory to God. (If you know specific missionaries, pastors, churches, etc., pray for them here.) Pray for effective use of videos, radio, newsletters and related media. Pray for resources, prayer and practical support from the world’s family of Christian churches, including those from Australia and from your own church.
10. Pray that God will help you to continue to pray for India’s ‘untouchables’ and to pray for those nearest you who do not know Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour yet that they too will come to know Him and, thus, book their place in eternity in God’s house (Jn 14:2).
‘I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord.’ – Ps 40:1-3

From Rowland: Received this today. (Note: I’m not au fait firsthand with the author of the article here, and don’t know the year being referred to – probably late 1990s. But our Hindu friend raises some concerns about which we Christians should be aware):
—
I’ve read your website at http://jmm.org.au/articles/128.htm and I find it disturbing that you would even consider using other people’s pain and suffering as a way to capitalize and strengthen Christianity. I’ve often pondered at why Christians do this, and I feel that you should do kind things because you want to help. Forcing people to listen to gospel and other Christian material unwillingly is wrong.
Just help them and be done with it. I, too, am unspuportive of the caste system, being a Hindu myself, but I don’t pray for them because I want them to stay Hindus. I pray for them because I don’t want them to suffer.
Think about it. Are you really concerned w/their needs? Or are you out to get a mass conversion. The tone of your website suggests the latter.
