The Johari Window

“Mark Tindall” <> wrote in message news:<>…

One model of interactive understanding that allows one to examine one’s relationship with another is the Johari Window (named after its creators – Joseph Luft & Harrington Ingham).

They see four panes on a window. When one pane changes the others also change. Example: As you disclose more (open self) , you have fewer secrets (hidden self) and the panes change accordingly.

The four panes are:

OPEN SELF – Everybody knows (You know and others know)

BLIND SELF – Only they know (You don’t know but others do)

HIDDEN SELF – Only you know (You know but others don’t)

UNKNOWN SELF – Nobody knows (You don’t know and others don’t either)
