MOST UNDERESTIMATE HOMELESS NUMBERS (Mission Australia)

A national survey, designed to learn more about everyday knowledge of homelessness, indicates most Australians significantly underestimate the number of homeless people across the nation. The survey, conducted by community service organisation, Mission Australia, suggests half of all Australians believe 10 000 people, or less, are homeless on any one night. Nine in every ten respondents believe the figure is under 100 000, or state they have no idea how many people are homeless. The reality is that more than 105 000 Australians are homeless on any one night – with more than 20 000 of these people ‘sleeping rough’.
