Gracious God,
sometimes Your presence is like a gentle, nurturing breath, the gentle touch of a loving spirit.
Sometimes it is like a raging storm that crashes against our most sacred feelings and beliefs, attacking what we hold dear, and challenging us to change. We wonder which it will be as we explore the Bible, our church, sexuality and leadership.
We wonder what others will say that will nurture and care for us, and what they will say that will make us angry or uncomfortable or scared. Give us gracious hearts to deal kindly with those with whom we disagree, open ears to hear what people really say, kindly tongues that do not destroy but nurture.
Help us to know afresh that our salvation and the church is Your gift to us, and that You are always faithful and loving and tender to Your people.
May Your gentle breath challenge us,
and may You protect us in the storm.
May all we do in this time bring glory and praise to Your name! Amen
