Thank you for the discussion on ways of understanding the death of Jesus.

I’ve found it a helpful to talk of four basic paradigms for thinking of the implications of Jesus’ death and resurrection: sacrificial, legal, victory and discipleship ‘models’ of ‘at-one-ment’ (which I understand was William Tyndale’s invented word for translating katallassw/katallage, or reconciliation).

I know we evangelicals have tended to think of discipleship as that which follows ‘being saved’, rather than part of the same ongoing event — but I think we’re learning that it’s not helpful to separate ‘faith’ and ‘works’ (as if it were ever possible).
