Children and their parents’ sins

One poster wrote:

Now to answer your question, these children didn’t “do” anything to deserve their plight. It’s the concept of the consequences of sin working themselves out on future generations.

Another responded:

So God won’t protect little babies from the actions of their parents. I guess your deity is not pro-life.

To which I responded:

Eugene Peterson has an interesting translation (in The Message, Jeremiah 32)

For ‘visiting the sins of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation’

he suggests:

‘Children live with the fallout from their parents’ sins’

True.
