MISPLACED FAITH
Many years ago, I used to work in a police control room. One of my colleagues, although a fun guy and a pleasure to work with, was nevertheless one “Q” short of a Scrabble set when it came to matters technological. He had a touching but exaggerated faith in the capabilities of the technologies surrounding him in his workplace. In the wee small hours of one night, perhaps at that time when our brains are not at their best, he needed to send a confidential document to a distant police control room. Sealing the document in a brown envelope, he covered the envelope with red “CONFIDENTIAL” stamps, signed his name several times across the sealed envelope flap to deter tampering, and then fed the whole thing into the fax machine! Beam me up, Scotty!
