The Living Mosaic
Welcome to the first edition of The Living Mosaic. This is the new newsletter of Priests for Equality. We hope to have a larger newsletter in the near future and include articles on inclusive language, news items, action alerts, resources, pieces on implementing inclusive language, personal stories about the struggle for equality, etc.
The Living Mosaic is more than a name: it’s a vision. Each of us plays an indispensable role in building a culture of equality; each of us has something to contribute to the whole movement. The challenge that we face is bringing those pieces together. Too often, our efforts can seem isolated. In the Church, it’s often like beating our head against a brick wall. Yet, there are many of us out there who continue to work for equality despite all the obstacles. There are lots of hands working toward equality and lots of voices rising up to call for justice in our Church and society. Together, we make up the Living Mosaic.
The Living Mosaic is a vehicle for the recognition of all the hard work and dedication of those who struggle for equality, gains you have made, and all the obstacles that you have faced while fighting against sexism in our Church and in society. It is also a call to join forces, even in the face of ecclesial intransigence and hostility, to build a new culture of equality-a living mosaic-where each has an equal share in our communities.
Translation Update
Priests for Equality (PFE) has entered into a new stage in its translation work. The first drafts of The Prophets are complete and the texts have been sent out to our independent scripture scholar. From there, they will be revised and edited to perfection. We are estimating that this process will take about six months, before they are ready to go to press. So you can expect The Prophets to be out next year.
Our dream is to produce a complete inclusive Bible and we are now directing all of our efforts to seeing that through. We are revising all of our other translations. We will be adding footnotes to The Inclusive New Testament, as well as updating our translations of the other books. Scripture translation is an ongoing process, and we are deidicated to producing quality inclusive lanugage Scripture for you.
