The Australian newspaper ran a feature article yesterday (16.12.02) in the sports pages by Mike Coward the cricketing columnist, on the Retired Australian Cricketers Bi-Annual Newsletter which Well-Being Australia’s Dr Mark Tronson co-ordinates (17 years ACB Chaplain, ret.) and it’s article by former Victorian Cricket Team Chaplain Barrie Sutton on cricketers and retirement.

The nature of the subject is serious as Mike Coward highlighted the recent re-publishing of David Frith’s 1990 “By His Own Hand” as “Silence Of The Heart” now detailing 150 professional cricketers who have taken their own life. Mike Coward quoted much from Barrie Sutton’s article, however this paragraph is seminal: “The most difficult part is leaving behind that which has been part of your life for many years. The caravan moves on and with it your friends, the action and excitement. The ending of the international scene is a time of grief and loss”.
