Music in Worship

C.S. Lewis regarding the Church of England of his day: As Lewis put it, too many hymns are fifth-rate poems set to sixth-rate music, and he would have liked to see *less* congregational singing (an unscientific poll of six of his friends showed unanimous agreement with this view).

The switch to contemporary music in many modern churches has not reduced the grounds for Lewis’s criticism…
