Adding a couple of quotations I came across shortly after I became really involved in criticising creationism in 1981.

(Ken Smith) writes:

James H. Shea wrote an editorial with the title ` “Scientific Creationism” and the Future of Geological Education — an Editorial ‘ in Journal of Geological Education, vol. 30, no. 1, (1982) pp. 4-5. The following quotation is from page 5.

Similarly, most creationist arguments turn out, upon close examination, to reveal more about the people who present them than about the subjects under discussion. Most of the arguments are so obviously without any scientific merit whatever that one is left with only two possible conclusions: Either the creationists are incredibly ignorant of the scientific fields they are dabbling in, or they are intellectually dishonest. The fact that the same thoroughly discredited arguments continue to be publicized lends strong support to the second hypothesis.

And my memory about Michael Ruse was correct. In his book “Darwinism Defended — A Guide to the Evolution Controversies” (Addison-Wesley Publishing Company, Massachusetts, 1982), page 303, he writes:

You know where I stand, of course. But, let me be quite categorical. I believe Creationism is wrong: totally, utterly, and absolutely wrong. I would go further. There are degrees of being wrong. The Creationists are at the bottom of the scale. They pull every trick in the book to justify their position. Indeed, at times, they verge right over into the downright dishonest. Scientific Creationism is not just wrong: it is ludicrously implausible. It is a grotesque parody of human thought, and a downright misuse of human intelligence. In short, to the Believer, it is an insult to God.

And there are lots more quotations I could provide, but these two, from a geologist and a philosopher should suffice to indicate the feelings of virtually all the academic community.
