I have adapted an email-with-links model, by the way, for our local church egroup ( we use the service at http://www.smartgroups.com ).
Weekly church announcements are gathered on a Powerpoint slide that is composed and displayed as members contribute them at notice time during the church service.
This is copied and emailed to the group next day, with links inserted where applicable to the official calendar and other resources.
SmartGroups is actually quite good at using email automatically to alert members to newly posted material and to provide reminders for events.
But we’ve learned not to over-use this, because some people have a low tolerance for material that’s been too obviously ‘machine-mediated’.
