Weekly Column for (11/14/05)
Following the terrible suicide bombings at three hotels in the heart of Jordan’s capital, Queen Noor, the former American who married the late Jordanian King Hussein and became a professional Muslim, assured network news viewers that this had nothing to do with Islam – her proof being that most of the victims are Muslims. “Of course, it wouldn’t have mattered who the victims were,” she added (perhaps with a straight face, we couldn’t tell).
The queen seems to spend a lot of her time in these sorts of interviews, providing spin control after each high-profile, ghastly atrocity committed by the Religion of Peace. Each time, she never fails to change the focus of the interview away from the horror and on to the preeminent need for Westerners to change their attitudes toward “Arabs and Muslims.”
Do we have to say it? Isn’t it obvious? The best cure for Islam’s battered image will be when it stops producing homicidal sociopaths who terrorize the planet. Instead of addressing us, the queen should be talking to people like Jordan’s own al-Zarqawi, the man behind the attacks. Trying to convince the rest of us that it isn’t about religion hasn’t done anything to dissuade the very people behind the violence – those for whom it is very much about religion.
The man who walked into the center of 300 people at a wedding reception – none of whom meant him any harm – and slaughtered as many of them and their children as he possibly could did so because he believed that this horrible and selfish “sacrifice” will achieve paradise for him and the hundreds of other Islamic suicide bombers offered up each year.
Wake up, Muslims! Stop obsessing over Iraq. The only people getting killed there are the same terrorists behind the Amman bombings and whomever those terrorists choose to kill (trust us, we’ve run the numbers). Do you need any more proof that these are very malicious people and that the fight against them is a righteous one? If they’re willing to massacre fellow Sunnis celebrating a wedding in Amman, what do you think they’ve got in mind for the mixed bag of Iraqis that might be left defenseless after the Americans leave?
This isn’t the work of one sick individual, or a handful of psychotics who just happened to coalesce against all probability. This is a network of thousands, supported by the endorsement of millions, supported by the apathy of hundreds of millions. These are people with plenty of religious clerics in their ranks who know the Qur’an better than you do.
No amount of concessions, attitude adjustments or indulgent “interfaith dialogue” on the part of credulous Westerners will ever stop this religious violence. The dialogue must take place within Islam, and only then will it have a chance of becoming a real Religion of Peace.
