A brief comment on dates.

Slightly before Scopes, when various fundamentalists in USA started to get a bit unhappy with some of the articles in the series of books “The Fundamentals” which were sympathetic to evolution.

The modern creationist movement can be dated to the 1961 publication of “The Genesis Flood by Whitcomb and Morris. The subtitle gives the whole game away: “The Biblical Rercord and itys Scientific Implications”, indicating that they start with the Bible and then try to twist the facts of science to fit their predetermined beliefs.

And if you read Morris’s “A History of Modern Creationism” you discover that Morris got his inspiration by reading a 1923 Seventh-day Adventist book.
