Paedophilia is the issue – Not teenage sex

The Rev Fred Nile MLC, Leader of the Christian Democratic Party, launched a devastating attack against the ALP Bill to lower the age of consent for buggery.

“During my speech in Parliament last night I proved the age of consent law is only designed to protect vulnerable boys from seduction and sexual abuse by paedophiles.

“The age of consent laws have nothing to do with sexual intercourse between teenagers of the same age, of the opposite sex or buggery between male teenagers. This is the reason no teenager has been charged under the Age of Consent.

“However adult paedophiles know the law; that they cannot use the defence that they were only having consensual sex with the boy.

“Lowering the age of consent sends a dangerous message to the paedophiles in our society, who eventually want the age of consent laws completely abolished for their self-protection.

“If the age of consent is lowered every paedophile who has had sexual relations with boys between 16 and 18 will breathe a great sigh of relief as the Attorney General stated any current police investigations would not proceed.

“Next Tuesday 27th May 2003 at 2.30 pm, the ALP’s Bill will be further debated in the Upper House when I will continue my speech. Hopefully the Bill will be finally defeated on a conscience vote.

“Last time, in 1999, we defeated the Bill by one vote – 20-19. It will again be a very close vote” said Rev Fred Nile MLC.
