One group which I refer to frequently in this topic is Answers in Genesis. They are one of the major creationist organizations worldwide, they originated in Australia; and they do show a concern for integrity about their position.

So in answer to Terry’s question, let me quote the professional creationists…

AiG teaches that ‘facts’ don’t speak for themselves, but must be interpreted. That is, there isn’t a separate set of ‘evidences’ for evolution and creation — we all deal with the same evidence (we all live on the same earth, have the same fossils, observe the same animals, etc.). The difference lies in how we interpret what we study. The Bible — the ‘history book of the universe’ — provides a reliable, eye-witness account of the beginning of all things, and can be trusted to tell the truth in all areas it touches on. Therefore, we are able to use it to help us make sense of this present world. When properly understood, the ‘evidence’ confirms the biblical account.

Apart from the claims about eye-witnesses and reliability; I agree with this paragraph as a good description of the fundamental difference between the two camps. It is in how evidence is interepreted. For creationists the bible comes first, and provides the light within which evidence must be interpreted. Science has no such prior guide to constrain interpretation. That is the difference in a nutshell.
