One apochryphal story from the early days of Australian settlement, when clergy were few and far between. I don’t know how true it is, but why let the truth spoil a good story?

A couple would stand at the edge of a creek, river or lake and each have a stone in their hands. They would throw these stones into the water and promise to be true to each other until the stones started floating.
