From a pastor-friend:
“I … promise you … to love you with all my heart, mind and strength.
I promise to be faithful to you, now and forever.
I promise to be your lover, companion and friend. I promise to be your ally in conflict, your greatest fan and your toughest adversary. I will be your partner in adventure and your accomplice in mischief.
I promise to be your consolation in disappointment, your strength when you need me, and to turn to you first in my own needs.
It is my vow to encourage you in all your endeavours, and to walk with you to help you fulfil your goals.
I will never leave you. I am here to stay, and I will be proud to be your husband/wife.”

I used it recently at a sightly unconventional wedding, where I declared the couple to be married and asked the congregation if I’d forgotten anything. I was quickly reminded that the groom should have kissed the bride by then, but it was a set-up to get everyone’s attention before we proceeded with the dedication of the couple’s baby. Then they had a group hug (and kisses) as I prayed for God to bless the new base they had established for their family.
It may not be kosher for all, but it fitted into a great day.
Enjoy your blessings tomorrow, and spread a few around…
