[1]: No I do not believe in a God. I simply do not know. Though one thing that I do know is that religion is hogwash! Why Science has to patronise religion I do not know.
[2]: You would probably enjoy Dawkins’ new book, “The God Delusion”. The scientists’ patronising (appeasing) is something that irritates him too. He really gives it the treatment.
[3]: Human civilised life is not all about logic and scientific thought. That came about BECAUSE of thinking about life, and that original thinking was all speculative…ie metaphysical. Speculation is the prime mover of all thought. Scientific thinking is a RESULT of that metaphysical thinking process.
Can science prove that THOUGHT exists…does it have depth breadth and length…is there a material existence?
Is material existence and testability the only criteria for civilised life?
The Greek thinkers were speculators. Remember the last words of Socrates…” …sacrifice a cock to Asclepius for me”. He had no shame about Belief. That is a modern pathology. Self imposed anxiety.
Also, Shakespeare has as much value to civilised life as Newton, as has the music of Mozart and Beethoven, all believers. Also, a magnificent Norman cathedral has as much value to the human psyche as a mathematical theory of science. Dawkins can only be ‘true’ within the closed logical loop he creates for himself… like Descartes really….”I think therefore I am”. but… am what…am a thinking being…a logical loop with nothing extra added. Dawkins is stuffed in this loop too.
