completely booted up, and leave it open all day, it generally behaves itself…
recommended x-news… Do you know it? I’m getting a bit sick of OE messing up (though like the fundamentalists, apparently once you get to know it, it’s OK 🙂

I’ve been using Xnews for some time now. It’s very much sore-throat NNTP compatible. Nice reader. A little bit of a learning curve, though.
Others:
Sensible people use a real newsreader, like Agent.
Or SeaMonkey!

Me again: I looked up an XNews site – http://www.slyck.com/xnews.php and as soon as I read about zipping/unzipping stuff to install it, gave the idea away…

Re the helpful advice:
– Don’t use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local folders created for this purpose.
Can these new folders be new sub-folders under Inbox and Sent Items or should I create separate ones?
Expert’s response:
Yes, they can. OE /displays/ them to you as subfolders but they’re really not. More: http://www.insideoe.com/files/store.htm

Good question from someone else:
I’ve created two identities in Outlook Express. When I create a message and seek the address to send it to, the “Main Identity” address book pops up, and I have to select “Shared Addresses” to find the address.
Since it’s just me and my wife, I don’t need a separate “Main Identity” list, only the “Shared” one.
Can I delete the “Main Identity” list? Or, alternatively, can I make the “Shared” one the default?
Expert response:
There doesn’t seem to be any way to do that.
What does work is autocomplete e-mail address (Tools, Options, Send). That will pull address from the Shared Contacts. Mike – http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm

Another question: I have Outlook Express 6 and my arrows have disappeared on my forward and reply emails. I am new on the newsgroup, so I hope I have posted correctly. Thanks for any assistance
Expert’s response:
You mean the carats? >>>>
You have to be using Plain Text. (Also preferred in most newsgroups, unless HTML is needed to make a point).
Tools | Options | Send | Mail Sending Format – Select Plain Text. In Plain Text Settings, check: “Indent original message…………….”.

I had trouble sending a ppt attachment
Response:
1. When you have the powerpoint open, go to FILE SEND TO MAIL RECIPIENT (AS ATTACHMENT)
2. COMPACT FOLDERS: File Work Offline Folder list – OE Close Folder list (x) File —>>> folder —>>> compact all folders (don’t use computer until finished)
3. COLOUR Create Format —>>> html
4. PRINT FONTS – Cal Georgia Goudy (?) MV Estrang Gant (?) Mono C Pal
