This is brief. It’s only recently that books/articles about Stress, PTSD etc. have mentioned the most important variable – choosing your parents well. A little more attention has been given to choosing your friends/mentors well. And a lot of attention is devoted to the ‘deck-chairs on the Titanic’ factors – lifestyle habits, like relaxation techniques, taking regular sabbaths etc. – important, but superstructural rather than inherently ‘structural’ factors.
The value or otherwise of ‘Reality-checking’ is mostly, I believe, a function/outcome of our parenting, and befriendings…
