The scale of the problem worldwide:
* An estimated 2.4 million people, 1.2 million of them children, are trafficked each year generating $7 billion a year,
* It is one of the world’s 3 largest illegal trades alongside arms and drugs,
* This trade buys and sells people for as little as $30 for life,
* This trade abuses and reduces people to commodities,
* People Trafficking is the fastest growing form of international crime.
March, 25th this year was the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade. An excellent movie has been produced to highlight the struggles, by **William Wilberforce**, to have the bill passed in the British parliament. Marilyn and I were fortunate to be at the preview of the film, sponsored by World Vision and The Salvation Army, at Parliament House Canberra on Tuesday 19th June. **The star is Ioan Gruffudd who also starred in the Horatio Hornblower series.**
**The movie “Amazing Grace” opens everywhere on 26th, 27th, 28th and 29th July, 2007** and I urge you to publicise it and attend the early sessions. Group bookings are available. **A good turnout for the movie in the early days will signify to the movie producers that we, the public, want good quality movies such as this, which highlight the plight of those who are victimised by society and the greedy.**
The movie is enjoyable and interesting entertainment. It is inspired by the true storey. It is not graphically gory and it shows the efforts needed for change for good in society.
