(from my irreverent mate Alan):
Praying for rain, always runs the danger of confusing God.
Pray for rain in Sydney, and the wheat farmers in Morowa are praying for clear skies for harvest.
God,herself, may have different ideas.
Take the US Presidential campaign.
James Dobson, old time warrior of the political and religious right, and whose Focus on the Family has formal relations with Australian Churches of Christ, has been leading the attack on Barak Obama.Prior to the Democratic Convention, Focus on the Family, called on supporters,”to beseech God with prayers so that Obama’s speech would be washed out with rains of biblical proportion”.
Well,here’s the problem.
The rains didn’t come, and Obama brought down the house.
But wait.
Today the Republican Convention has been put on hold.As millions flee down South from Hurricane Gustav, the Republicans have abandoned the opening of their Convention.
Is God a Democrat?
Is God not listening to Focus Christians?
Should Churches of Christ think again about who they promote?
Did God lose her way, and get the wrong city?
Does God think it’s time for a different colour in the White House?
Should we all stop praying for rain?
Ah well, another of faith’s great mysteries!
