A young man shopping in a supermarket noticed a little old lady following him around. If he stopped, she stopped. And she kept staring at him.
She called him over to her checkout, and said to him, ‘I hope I haven’t made you feel ill at ease; it’s just that you look so much like my late son.’
He answered, ‘That’s okay.’
‘I know this might sound silly, but if you’d call out ‘Good bye, Mum’ as I leave the shop, it would make me feel happy.’
She went through the checkout, and as she reached the doorway, he called out, ‘Goodbye, Mum.’
She waved and smiled back.
Pleased that he had brought a little sunshine into someone’s day, he reached for his wallet.
‘That comes to $121.85,’ said the cashier.
‘How could it be that much? … I only bought 5 items!’
The cashier replied: ‘Yes, but your Mother said you’d pay for her things too.’
